“Online 3D printing service” describes two very different experiences. One is a marketplace that takes your file, emails you a quote a day later, and routes the job to whichever partner shop bids lowest. The other is a shop with its own machines that prices your part the moment you upload it and prints it in-house. Step 1: Upload a file (and why STEP beats STL for real parts)
Every online service starts with a 3D file. STL is the lowest common denominator: it describes your part as a mesh of triangles, which is fine for a figurine but loses the true curves and dimensions of an engineering part. If your CAD tool can export STEP, use it. Our instant quote tool accepts STL, STEP, OBJ and 3MF and converts them on the spot.
The upload is also where most quotes stall. Non-manifold edges, inverted normals and zero-thickness walls all produce a part that looks fine on screen and slices wrong. Step 2: Get a price that is computed, not guessed
This is the single biggest difference between online services. A form-based quote means a human looks at your file and applies judgment, margin and mood. A computed quote means the service actually slices your model and prices the result. Ours is public:
- Material volume × $/cm³. PLA starts at $0.035/cm³; carbon-fiber nylon is roughly 3.5× that. Every rate is on the pricing page and on each material page.
- $5 setup fee per order. Not per part.
- $20 order minimum. Small parts are cheap, but we cannot run a machine for $3.
- Quantity discounts applied automatically. Change the quantity field and watch the unit price drop; there is no “request bulk pricing” form.

Step 3: Choose a material and a turnaround tier
Marketplaces list dozens of processes because they aggregate dozens of shops. A single in-house shop lists what it actually runs. We print FDM only, in 11 engineering thermoplastics: PLA, PLA-CF, PETG, PET-CF, ABS, ASA, PC, TPU, PA6-CF, PAHT-CF and PPS-CF. Step 4: Pay online, then let the shop work
A real online service takes payment at upload with a card; established business accounts can also pay by ACH or purchase order. Once paid, your order shows up in our production queue with the sliced file already attached. There is no re-quoting step, no “engineer review” that quietly changes the price, and no phone call unless your part has a genuine printability problem, in which case we email you before touching it.
You get an order confirmation immediately, a status email when the part enters production, one when it passes QC, and a tracking number when it ships.
Step 5: Quality check, shipping, or local pickup
Every part is checked against the model before it is packed: dimensions on critical features, layer adhesion, surface defects, and support removal. Parts that fail QC are reprinted before anything ships.

Checklist before you upload
- Export STEP if you can, STL at 0.01 mm chord tolerance if you cannot.
- Confirm the units. A part designed in inches uploaded as millimeters is 25× too small.
- Wall thickness of at least 1.2 mm; 2 mm where the part carries load.
- Know the temperature and load the part sees so you pick the right material.
- If it needs threads, design for heat-set inserts rather than printed threads.
- Decide whether you want to ship or pick up before checkout; it changes the total.
