Local context

La Jolla is San Diego's biotech and research heart — UCSD, Scripps Research, Salk Institute, and the Torrey Pines Mesa biotech cluster drive most of our La Jolla jobs. Do you print medical prototypes for UCSD or Scripps?+
Yes — lab fixtures, bench-top test hardware, device enclosures, and anatomical reference models for researchers at UCSD, Scripps, and Salk. We are not FDA-registered and not ISO 13485 certified, so we do not produce patient-contacting devices, surgical guides, sterilizable implants, or Class II medical devices. For lab tooling and R&D prototypes we are routinely used.
How long does 3D printing take for a La Jolla pickup?+
Standard turnaround is 5–7 business days; rush is 1–2 days (+60%, $60 minimum). From our Miramar shop, head west on Miramar Rd, which becomes La Jolla Village Dr at I-805: UCSD and the Torrey Pines Mesa campuses are about 15 minutes away outside rush hour, La Jolla Village about 18. Many grad students drive in for same-day pickup on rush jobs — arrange it with us ahead of time.
Is TAKT 3D actually located in La Jolla?+
No. The shop is about 15 minutes east of UCSD, at 7950 Silverton Ave Ste 205, San Diego, CA 92126, in the Miramar / Mira Mesa area. Pickup is free and by arrangement during our pickup window (Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM PT); call ahead so your parts are staged. Or we ship UPS Ground from $15.
What material is best for a biology lab prototype?+
Depends on the job. PLA is perfect for quick form-study parts and display models. PETG holds up to most lab solvents and autoclave-adjacent temperatures (under 70°C). PC is the pick for anything that needs to be transparent. See /pricing for the per-material cost table.
Is TAKT 3D the closest 3D printing service to La Jolla?+
